Ralf Walters has 30 years experience writing content for a variety of clients in print, digital and broadcast media. He began his career writing advertising copy for the Chicago Sun-Times. He later transferred his skills to news reporting, becoming a newspaper managing editor and editorial writer. With changes looming in the newspaper industry, he again transferred his skills to the field of public relations where he was senior writer and communications/media relations director. There he generated publicity and specialized communications for Fortune 100 company Smithfield Foods Inc.
When the Great Recession devastated the economy in 2009, Ralf once again adapted to changing marketplace conditions and launched his public relations and editorial services. He has recently branched out to book publishing, helping new authors develop their novels from concept to publication, with special emphasis on character and plot development, dialogue and grammar and punctuation.
Ralf received the prestigious North Carolina Press Association’s Public Service Award for “Outstanding Editorial Judgment” as editor of the Daily Southerner Newspaper located in eastern N.C. His news team reported on the fast moving conditions of Hurricane Floyd and the five-hundred-year flood which threatened to destroy their town and newspaper. The newspaper served as a vital link between emergency management, relief agencies and the public. They missed only one day of publication when they moved the newsroom to higher ground. As editor Ralf had to transfer the daily publication to portable disks and deliver them to another newspaper in a nearby town that was unaffected by the flood to be printed.
